I just stumbled into this one a few days ago, and it feels like it was made just for me. Take the best parts of Mega Man (lots of well designed stages, cool boss fights) and mix it with a really unplaceable sense of humor (jokes about the futility of existence, a strange man who loses more articles of clothing every time you defeat him) and you’ll have Mibibli’s Quest. First off, just say “Mibibli” a few times to yourself out loud, because it’s a really funny name. Next, play this game immediately because it’s probably the best new game you could be playing, and I’m going to talk about it forever. (more…)

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Review – Trial By Liars
Since I stumbled into Zero Escape: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors a couple of years ago, I’ve been a huge proponent of visual novels. They’re a place where I can seek out the kinds of stories that aren’t typically told anywhere else, in a way that suits a narrative better than say, incidental dialogue being shouted over gunfire. The Phoenix Wright series follows a similar formula to the Zero Escape games, but tells broader stories and bases their mechanics around fighting liars in court battles, rather than the focused narratives centered around locked room puzzles. Danganronpa somehow manages to find a happy medium between these two, and has earned itself an easy recommendation to anyone even slightly interested in dipping into the genre, especially if you’ve never tried one before. Jazzpunk – Stupid Done Smart

There’s a ten minute span in Jazzpunk in which you will be transported to a world of pizza, see the ramifications of playing arcade games in real life, and intentionally cause the deaths of at least a half dozen innocent citizens roaming a city. This ten minute period will likely be the first ten minutes you spend with the game. Welcome to Jazzpunk. (more…)

Here’s Every Game I Played in 2013
I’ve kept this running list going all year long, and it’s time I remove this one from the front of the site and start up one for 2014. This list will live on in this post, and I’ll keep it updated whenever I stumble onto something else I missed throughout last year. As of now (January 2, 2014), this list has around 443 games on it. That’s a lot of games for one year. Granted, the majority of them are tiny 5 minute experiments, but that’s still a ton of stuff I was able to enjoy. At some point, I plan on making a Top 50 or 100 games of 2013, sifting through this list and picking out the best of it, but I have no idea when that’ll be. For now, take a look back on just how much stuff came out last year, click on a few links, and play something new. (more…) -
