Wait, it’s almost April? Danganronpa took up almost all of my February, and now that Dark Souls II is here, I’m not sure when I’ll be feel like picking up anything else. February was a month with some really pleasant surprises, and a few (kind of expected) disappointments. While the new South Park and Castlevania games may not have had me smitten, there were certainly a few games in there that I couldn’t put down until I had drained every bit of their essence. Let’s begin with the one that took up almost all of last month for me, and the game I still keep talking about with anyone else who finished it.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Review – Trial By Liars
Since I stumbled into Zero Escape: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors a couple of years ago, I’ve been a huge proponent of visual novels. They’re a place where I can seek out the kinds of stories that aren’t typically told anywhere else, in a way that suits a narrative better than say, incidental dialogue being shouted over gunfire. The Phoenix Wright series follows a similar formula to the Zero Escape games, but tells broader stories and bases their mechanics around fighting liars in court battles, rather than the focused narratives centered around locked room puzzles. Danganronpa somehow manages to find a happy medium between these two, and has earned itself an easy recommendation to anyone even slightly interested in dipping into the genre, especially if you’ve never tried one before. 2013’s Honorable Mentions – Divekick
With its two-button control scheme and simple rules, Divekick is one of the best party games of the year. Whether you’re trying desperately to read your opponent’s next move, or just shouting at the combatants from the couch, Divekick is good time for all involved. Sony at Gamescom 2013: New Games, Vita Back to Life, and a PS4 Release Date
As everybody packs up their bags and heads out, let’s take a look at what Sony’s Gamescom conference entailed.
