Still keeping it pretty strong, 2016! It feels like every week I’m being bombarded with some good stuff to play. Even that Twilight Princess remake is prety good, now that the dust has settled on that one a little bit. I’ve gotten deeper into Street Fighter than I ever had before, and I now understand why people like Harvest Moon. And I said “Super. Hot.” a lot out loud to myself when no one was around. Not bad, not bad. Oh, and The Witness’ endgame is nuts I’ll probably never finish it. It was fun while it lasted.

The Witness – Drawing Conclusions

2016 has been rad so far, right? With Pony Island, Oxenfree, and now, serious Wow This Is Already Game of the Year Material, The Witness, we’ve been doing pretty well for ourselves.
I’ve had the game for less than a week, but I’m pretty comfortable in calling The Witness a puzzle classic along the lines of Braid, Fez, Antichamber, and Portal. It’s really that great, and I’ve barely seen a quarter of it. Though it feels similar to those games, The Witness never seems like it’s aping any one of them, and surprisingly feels like the Brand New Thing I always hoped it could be. The puzzles expand in ways that are at once brilliant and natural, and I kind of wish I was just playing more of it right now to see what they could possibly surprise me with next. (more…)

2015 Reflections and 2016 Predictions

What’s coming in 2016? A lot, actually.
Here’s the post where we look at all of the stuff coming out this year and realize that, wow, there are actually still good things coming. As I compiled the list for that catastrophe you can see above, I couldn’t believe how many games were scheduled for the next twelve months.

Here’s Every Game I Played in 2015
It’s dumb, but I still love keeping track of all this. If you ever check out the Games of 20xx on the front page, it’s a list of every single thing I played that year. I update it every time I play anything, which probably is evidence of a deeper problem, but I think it’s super cool to have as a refresher of what I was into. I played about 270(ahh!!!!) games last year. A bunch of them were neat. (more…)

Game of the Year 2015: #08 – Splatoon

2015 Was a Pretty Good Year for Games, I Guess?

Every year for me, there’s a handful of games that I fall in looooove with. Just a few that I can’t stop talking and thinking about, that stay with me all year long, and probably well into the next. Where were those this year?
Now, hear me out. I really enjoyed a lot of games this year. My first run through Bloodborne was almost pure bliss. Those first few matches of Splatoon? Just, wow. My entire playthrough of Until Dawn? I couldn’t stop talking about it for like a week or two. But then I stopped. What happened?
